TOTALLY EXCELLENT TOTES

Sarah Cole

These are some tote bags we've been working on. These are all very handmade complete with anomalies, but they are all super strong double stitched and lined , and they all use quality reclaimed fabrics from end of roll, local thrift stores or garments that are damaged.. Also all the bits a pieces from the cut graphics are also reused in the designs, its a fun serendipitous form of collage which highlights the negative and positive shapes within the design. This process also insures that no to bags are alike.

A few of our very special customers have been receiving these sporadically, we hope they will used excessively and much loved.  We love this because its a  great way to package our products with something that is up-cycled but also functional and reusable.

These are fast becoming collectors items as they cannot be bought, and arrive as a special surprise with your purchase.

AVOID BUYING DRUDGERY WITH ACCESSORY EMERGENCY

Sarah Cole

Ever get that incredibly depressed feeling in a shopping centre, i have tried to nail exactly what it is about the shopping centre energy that's so dark, and i think that its not one specific thing in isolation but a major cluster fuck of sinister things occurring.

1.I feel like you're reminded throughout your shopping experience of the homogenius look that you're going to potentially walk away with, its in the advertising, the way you might be influenced or manipulated by alleged sales and in the clothing that people have already purchased and are walking around wearing. Yes, companies are charging people for clothes and then people inadvertently advertise their brand for the term of there depressingly short fashion cycle.

2. Why is it so cheap? Everyone knows about the elephant in the room of sub standard working/pay conditions. But there maybe a whole plethora of other reasons why, maybe the quality is substandard, or a large company wants to remove it from its inventory creating room for a more viable faster moving or higher profit margin line of products ( yes the items sale price does not necessarily relate to the wholesale price ) , i think the major problem with this is it creates a situation where people buy allot more than they require as they enter into the false economy of snagging a bargain.

3.  I feel like there is no room in this expensive retail space for anything that does not either have a massive profit margin, or is fast moving enough to offset the items lower profit margin. Some of your money may go to the manufacturer but surely a huge amount is going to the shopping centre itself, and maybe not so much into the quality or care taken to make your clothing/jewellery  :( :(

Wow thats all quite depressing,   and a little bit ranty , but cathartic for us , so what do we do to try and counteract this mass produced conspicuous consumption boredom.

1. Our limited edition pieces that move to manufacturing are rigorously tested for quality wearability and design before creating any type of tool or investment in the fabrication process. Accessory Emergency tries to stay outside of trends and insidious fashion cycles and so quality is incredibly important as we hope that our customers can enjoy these pieces for many years to come and they become wardrobe staples.

2. We up-cycle and recycle whenever possible. Accessory Emergency does not up-cycle or recycle anything and everything, however if end of roll, manufacturing refuse or second hand material becomes available in the right quality and of course a general aesthetic that is loved by our design team, we grab it. The other great benefit of up-cycling is we end up with more unique items as often these materials are serendipitously acquired and are never available again.

3. We don't mass produce anything in the range, it’s just too boring for us and you, i would die of becoming an un-cool robot ( not the sexy kind of robot like Sorayama http://abduzeedo.com/node/76263  ) if i had to make every fabric neckpiece the same, argh, so we are often designing as we are making things and the designs will often inform us of how they want to be put together, cheeky things.

4. We make custom designs at our customers request,  it could be some custom colour inserts for the Mondri only one pieces or adding those pieces to the mimof range, or as complex as a large fabric piece for a special event or just because.

In short there is nothing dreary about an Accessory Emergency design , and your unlikely to ever run into anyone else with the exact same Accessory Emergency piece, or if you do then you need to make a new special friend with amazeballs taste xxx

New CRAYONS EDITION NECKPIECES

Sarah Cole

New only one limited edition neckpieces  and fabric pieces are popping up today .

FullSizeRender.jpg

When I was much younger physically (  not mentally there's been no change there ;)  ) I loved  my crayons , usuallly the crazy bright ones , and then there is always those strange colours that no one ever uses , but they make those crazy brights look even more popping. One day I left my beloved crayons in the sun and when I remembered where they were I naively went to grab them and found they had melted together in the lovely sun, it was a strange moment of disappointment and fascination as the meld/agglomeration was amazing and had even picked up some of the super shiny texture from the plastic they been resting on, i realise now that it was my first serendipitous moulding project ! Now I'm a little more technically competent but still child like in the joy I feel when experimenting with materials, colours and manufacturing techniques.

Our new Crayon Editions 4 and 6 neck-pieces are the only one section in our E-store, lighten up its almost spring time XO Accessory Emergency

Whats happening this week at Accessory Emergency ? 09/03/17

Sarah Cole

Wow , Its bee a busy week , the Only One Mondri pieces have been going crazily well , turning the studio into a madhouse of production energy.  New editions are becoming available slowly, so keep you eye out for the color combo that is uniquely you xx

I have been procrastinating over how to use my first sample of digitally printed silk fabric, thanks to The Social Studio / The printing studio in Smith Street Collingwood. It's so expensive but so beautiful, I'm afraid to cut into it , stay alert but not alarmed to snag your original design in accessory emergency's new fabric. In the meantime ill be using the whole 3 meters as a giant swathe dress to swan around the studio, just like a modern Grecian goddess.

The first of hopefully many fun girly accessories have become available in the form of elegant but modern digitally embroidered pieces , the first one has appeared in the shop today.

Sarah Cole

Just discovered this beautiful market that happens Wednesday evenings at Blender lane in the CBD of Melbourne 5pm -10 pm . Unfortunately the market will end its tenure at that location with the last Market on the 25/01/2017, ( which i am hoping to take part in )  but it sounds like the organizers are hatching a plan to continue somewhere else , i am a bit new to the scene so i may not have great Intel,  but am looking forward to finding out what happens.

These are the Mimof neck pieces with special color inserts , these are put together in custom configurations exclusively for the Blender Lane Artists market. Come down and customize yours, all of the inserts are hand made so you can be assured that …

These are the Mimof neck pieces with special color inserts , these are put together in custom configurations exclusively for the Blender Lane Artists market. Come down and customize yours, all of the inserts are hand made so you can be assured that no 2 configurations will be the same. And if your in a more monochromatic mood you can remove the inserts and wear the neckpieces alone.
